Can You Make Your Mystic Blue Orchid Bloom Blue Again

Mary loves all flowers, but the orchid is her very favorite. She encourages people to grow this beautiful and rewarding flower.

the-blue-orchid-also-known-as-the-blue-mystique-orchid-photos-and-tips-on-how-to-grow

My children know how fond I am of orchids. I believe they are the near beautiful of all the flowers (sad, rose, you know I love you, besides).

Orchids come in all colors and types. Almost orchids are tropical or subtropical. I live in South Florida and they thrive here with just a niggling care. I hang mine underneath a palm tree, as they cannot tolerate direct sun (their leaves will burn). If and when our temperature drops down to 45 degrees, I bring them within to protect them.

Blue Mystique Orchid

Blueish Mystique Orchid

I thought I had seen every type of orchid in existence, so I was very surprised when my daughter walked into my house with this gorgeous blue orchid. It was breathtaking! How could an orchid exist blue?

There was a label that simply stated that the flower had been grown by a visitor in Homestead, Florida, called Silverish Vase. The label said: "With a little bit of magic nosotros turn a white orchid blue! New blooms volition be gorgeous white!" I went to their website, where I was informed that they employ an infusion process that is patented and kept very surreptitious. They do not divulge any other information.

Cost

My daughter would not tell me what she paid for this orchid. I would imagine they cost twice what a regular orchid would cost. She found this i at our local Wal-Mart Garden Shop. The adjacent time I go, I will take a wait and see for myself what this beauty costs. I just might have to purchase another one!

I just hope the plant volition remain bluish until it finishes blooming, at which time when it does rebloom, I should have a white orchid which I will savour just as much equally the blue 1.

  • Orchids practise non grow in regular soil, but rather in a loose mixture of charcoal and bawl. I buy the potting mixture premixed from a garden center. Some people mount their orchids on a tree where the roots will go attached. I have tried this method just was not successful. I grow mine in a clay pot that is designed only for orchids.
  • The roots are strange-looking: They hang out all over the exterior of the pot in search of wet, air, and light.
  • The plant should never be allowed to dry out out completely, merely if the plant is overwatered, it volition rot and die. The special pot allows for excess water to drain out. I just use the garden hose near once a week to thoroughly water mine. They should exist fed every other watering with a special fertilizer made just for orchids.
  • Nigh every three years, I repot mine because they get overcrowded. The pot should be smaller than the plant itself. If yous repot into a pot that is too large, the roots will never find their mode to the light, and they will rot trying.
  • When my orchids are in bloom, I bring them inside the business firm and so I can savour looking at them. When they finish blooming, and all the flowers take dropped off, the stalk should be cut about two inches above the leaves. The orchid will reward you by blooming again—when depends on the type. Some of mine flower twice a year, and some bloom in one case. What a thrill when you lot run into a new bud appear. Y'all know a new blossom is coming.
My Cattleya Orchid

My Cattleya Orchid

The blazon you run into growing hither is the Cattleya Orchid. Some people call this the "corsage" orchid. I have one of these that my daughter gave me for Mother'due south Mean solar day in 2003. It blooms every Mother's Day, just like clockwork.
